Barbara Cocktail

No new episode this last week. Things ran away from me. Give me until Saturday.

To bridge the gap between the last episode (Savory Cocktails) and the next (Vodka, what is it good for?), here’s a vodka drink from the Savoy Cocktail Book:

Barbara Cocktail

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz white crème da cacao
  • 1/2 oz cream

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a dusting of shaved chocolate or cocoa powder.

This is really just an Alexander variation, and a fairly bland one at that. Use gin for the original or switch to brandy and dark crème da cacao for the more famous Brandy Alexander.

You’ve reminded me to put this up for your consideration, the tweeked version of the Gamma Ray Burster I entered in this year’s Skepchick drink contest – the Gamma Ray Burster:

    2 oz. Cachaça
1.5 oz. Tang made w/Tonic Water
    0.5 oz. Blue Curaçao
    0.5 oz. Campari

Pour over ice, stir. It still seems to need a bit of diluting, it tastes best when the ice has melted a bit. I may try cutting it w/another 0.5 oz. of tonic water.
